FAQ

Will this zine be SFW or NSFW?
This zine will be majorly SFW! A reasonable amount of mild gore/violence and dark-ish themes will be allowed considering the darker theme of the manga this zine is based on.

What is this zine about?
This zine will be about the four main vigilantes from the My Hero Academia: Vigilantes spin-off series!

The manga itself is about a young man who uses his Quirk to help others. After he and a girl are harassed by a group of delinquents and saved by the vigilante Knuckleduster, Koichi is recruited to become a vigilante himself.

Vigilantes has a slightly darker tone compared to My Hero Academia. It is also a prequel to the main series, with some of the events occurring within the vigilantes' line of duties having ties to the main series.

Is this zine for-profit? Digital? Physical?
This zine will be digital only, a free-to-download PDF!

Will I have to have discord?
Yes, discord will be required if you are accepted into the zine. That will be where all announcements and updates will be posted.

Will you be looking for anything specific in contributor apps?
For artists, we will be looking for three (3) samples with a portfolio! At least one piece with a full background will be required. SFW samples only; mild gore/violence and dark-ish themes are fine, but potential triggers must be mentioned. Failure to abide by this may disqualify your application. While My Hero Academia or Vigilantes work is highly encouraged it will not be required!

More specifically, we will look at your grasp of color, anatomy, and composition.

Merch Artists: Merch samples are highly recommended but not required.
Comic Artists: Comic pages are highly recommended but not required.

For writers, we will also be looking for three (3) samples along with a portfolio! Each sample must be between 1.5k and 3k words. Chapters and excerpts of longer works are allowed, but we ask that each excerpt have a sentence or two of context to go along with it. SFW samples only; mild gore/violence and dark-ish themes are fine, but potential triggers must be mentioned. Failure to abide by this may disqualify your application. While a Vigilantes sample will not be required, at least one sample should be My Hero Academia.

More specifically, we will look at your grasp on grammar/spelling, the story's flow, ability to tell a story within the word count, and characterization.

Can I apply for more than one position?
Yes. However, you can only be accepted for one position.

Are ships allowed in this zine?
No explicit romantic relationships will be allowed, but what is implied by canon is fine in a background sense.

Is content about other characters allowed? Like Makoto, Captain Celebrity, Naruhata Dept Girls, Rock, etc?
Of course! However, we will prefer that the majority of the content to focus on our main four vigilantes! If you wish to write/draw from another’s POV (like Rock’s obsession with Knuckleduster and Pop Step, or Makoto’s thoughts on vigilantism), that would be fine.

Other characters, including the above and others such as All Might, AFO, Naomasa, Tensei, Tamao/Hachisuka, or Aizawa, may make cameos.

Are AUs allowed?
To an extent, yes. We wish to stick to the canon universe, so Canon Divergence, Time Loop, or College AU are fine, but not a Fantasy AU.

Are headcanons allowed?
Yep! We ask that you stay as close to canon compliant as possible, but filling in the blanks is free game!

How do check-ins work?
Check-ins are periods throughout the creation period where your pieces will be turned in to the Mods to showcase progress. Details of what is expected for each check-in will be detailed in the designated channels on our discord. The dates for each check-in are also provided on our schedule!

Will extensions be allowed?
Definitely! We will announce reminders one week in advance prior to every due date. Should you feel you may need an extension, simply ask for one in the designated channels or message a mod directly. Please also ask for an extension if you are not sure whether or not you will need one. Better safe than sorry!

What happens if I miss a deadline?
Missing a deadline is not a huge issue, but we ask that you do keep track of them and let us know as soon as you can if you think you may miss one. We will be very firm on the final submission dates as this will make zine assembly much easier for release. Should you feel that you will not be able to meet a deadline, please simply ask for an extension!

However, failure to respond to announcements and reminders regarding deadlines, inform a mod of your absence, and/or show us any progress of your work until after the Second Check-In will result in removal from the project. Remember, this only applies if you fail to communicate your absence(s). Should you inform us of them in advance, and manage to show us progress of your work, you of course will not be removed from the project. We understand that life and health come first.
